the price of being a programmer
let's talk cash
ahhh, to be a film programmer… the illusive yet sought after role in the industry.
whether programming for a cinema, museum, institute, festival, streamer, or otherwise, one has to be plugged into audiences’ wants and needs. between countless hours of screening and caverns of brain storage recalling information on any title relevant for a given program, the work really has no boundaries.
an idea for a collection comes while showering; an idea for a channel comes while reading a book; an idea for a retrospective comes in between sleep cycles; an idea here; an idea there; and so on…
at the end of the day, we are watching movies for a living. what a privilege! but work never really ends and it most certainly does not pay handsomely. so are we really making a living or is this simply an expensive hobby?
